Hobbies and The Art of Keeping Busy

A hobby is something we all know, but sadly we all don't have. If you sprung a random question to an acquaintance like what their hobby is, a shrug and an 'I'm not sure' would be a likely response. Most of us fail to understand the good that a it does.

All work and no play like they say, makes Jack a dull boy. Not only that it makes him stressful and without something to run to when the depression kicks in, something called a hobby. Doctors and psychiatrists say that one of the things that make a person stressed is the lack of hobbies to turn to.

A hobby is something that is included in the genes (of course not literally but figuratively) and therefore gives the body and more importantly the mind a distraction when the stress kicks in. You could say that a hobby is a natural way to de-stress.

When looking for pleasure, a hobby is one road to go. The good news is that the pleasure on this road is always guaranteed. When you do something that you love, you ease the mind and the 'pleasure' hormones are released which leave you feeling happier with yourself and with others.

When you want to find the perfect hobby for you, you need to ask yourself what you are naturally good at; what is it that comes natural to you. If you have a problem coming up with the right answer, you need to make a list and narrow it down from there.

Here's a tip; whatever hobby you put down that is met by a smile on your face and some excitement that is the hobby that you should go for.

Having a hobby does not always have to be expensive. Sure, some of them like deep sea diving or traveling the world need you to crack open your account, but the reality is you could get a perfectly good hobby that costs little or nothing at all.

Reading, for instance; you only need to identify the topic you enjoy and read on it. If not there's writing where with enough creativity, there is not putting a stop to the content that you could develop.

Photography is another option. Cameras are relatively cheap with developments in the photography industry where you could buy a camera phone and take pictures every time you are doing something fun. With time you can get really good at this and make money from it if your mind is in business-oriented.

All in all a hobby is needed as a channel for creativity; otherwise all the hidden potential within you could wither away as you age. A hobby gives you something to run to when you want to break the routine of work and family and you would be amazed at how comforting it is.

Find the kind of work that is in direct relation with your hobby and you will never work a day in your life; that's a great personality once said.
