Amsterdam's Royal Palace was constructed in 1648 as the city hall. After the arrival of King Louis Napoleon in 1808 the building was turned into a palace. This palace is still the official residence of the royal family but they only host a few functions at this site during the year. The Hague is where the royal family now resides. If you want to visit the Royal Palace you will find it at Nieuwezijds Voorbugwal 147.
Amsterdam is home to the largest museum that is found in the Netherlands. The Rijksmuseum is at Stadhouderskade 42 and is open from 10am until 5pm. You can see paintings that date back to the 1400s as well as some of the more modern compositions. 'The Nightwatch' is one of the best of Rembrandt's masterpieces and this is your chance to see it in person.
The Anne Frank House is tiny but always has long lines of people waiting to tour the premises. It will only take you about 15 minutes to view the 5 rooms. You will find this Amsterdam attraction located at Prinsengracht 263, Westerkerk.
If you visit Paulus Potterstraat & you will be able to tour the Van Gogh Museum. This is where a display of hundreds of paintings and drawings by Van Gogh are permanently housed.
The Heineken Experience is waiting for tourists at Stadhouderskade 78 and includes up to 2 free beers and a souvenir glass. You can visit this landmark location Tuesday-Saturday. Be sure to check out the Bottle Ride which is your opportunity to learn what being a beer bottle is all about.
If you are adventurous and enjoy the subculture and charm of the underground then you might want to check out the Sex Museum, the Hash Museum and the Torture Museum. You can reach any of these museums with a quick walk beginning at the center of the city. One of the newer attractions that might also appeal to some is the Amsterdam Dungeon. If you have children under the age of 15 an adult must be with them in order for them to be admitted. For horror movie lovers this stop should be put at the top of the list.
